Inspired by the overzealous campaigns against digital piracy, many important film studios have asked the search giant to not only remove their own legal material, but even to drop their Facebook pages and Wikipedia posts.

After Google announced of its intentions to publish DMCA notices (within the frames of a program called Google Transparency Report), the company found itself overwhelmed with an unprecedented number of requests.

Google Wins UN in Propaganda Battle

Google is seen winning a propaganda victory against the efforts of the United Nations to regulate the web, but it currently seems that the International Telecoms Union, responsible for the changes, is fighting back. For a while, the efforts of the UN telecommunications body have been pitched as a cunning plan to enable the organization to bring in tough controls for Internet users.

225px-Flag_of_the_United_Nations.svg.png

The US made this claim – apparently, the country doesn’t want to give up its own control of the web under the bogus justification that it was the US who invented the Internet. However, the Secretary General of the UN telecommunications body told the

Google Was Quick to Patch a Flaw

It took Google less than a day to release a new version of its browser after a critical flaw was discovered by a young hacker. Google offered good money for discovering Chrome security holes, and one was found by a young hacker nicknamed Pinkie Pie. As a result, he got $60,000 cash prize and a free Chromebook.

Microsoft Demands Google to Block News Sites

The software giant appears to become censorship crazy – it is asking the search engine to remove links to news content. Microsoft has been dashing off censorship request to Google to remove BBC, Wikipedia, and CNN stories.

Bicycle-300x231.jpg

The number of DMCA takedown requests issued by the rights owners has rocketed within the last period and it seems that some of them are abusing the process. Actually, they may do it not on purpose: a lot of copyright owners prefer using automated systems to warn the search engine and other portals of the copyright violations, but this method doesn’t always work properly.

Google Won't Allow the Author to Give Away His Book

Industry observers often call Google’s customer service a “massive failure”, and now they can say the same about the company’s overzealous attempts to fight piracy. The experts point to an example of Cody Jackson – an author who decided to make his book available for free.

Python-Tutorial.jpg
Jackson’s book is titled “Start Programming with Python”, and he decided to give it away for free in consideration of all the benefits offered by the open-source community. Internet users could find links to download this work for free, but the writer also asked everyone to support his work through donations. Cody Jackson

Google Wants to Privatize the Internet

Consumer Watchdog claimed that the authorities should keep track of what international corporations like Google and Amazon are doing online, as well as to reject their applications to purchase new top level domains in bulk.

The watchdog outfit has recently written an open letter to ICANN and other relevant authorities. In the letter, John M Simpson, the Consumer Watchdog privacy project director, explained that there were plans by such giants as Google and Amazon to purchase enormous amounts of new top level domains. According to

Google Removed Video in Brazil to Save Its CEO

Apparently, if you want a video to be removed from YouTube, just get Google executives locked up and it will be. After Google refused to take down a video derogatory to a local mayor, the court simply locked up one of its Brazil executives.

After all, the Brazilian department of Google had to obey a court order and delete a video against a mayor candidate from YouTube. In the meantime, Fabio Coelho, local Google director-general, claimed that he was very disappointed to be refused to openly

Brazil Will Arrest Google Executive

Local elections court ordered the arrest of the search engine’s most senior executive in Brazil after he refused to remove YouTube videos that attacked one of the mayoral candidates.

This wasn’t the first case of this kind. Earlier, a similar decision was delivered by another local election judge who decided that another CEO was liable for infringing local election legislation. However, the decision in question was overturned a week ago.

Iran blocked Google Services

Iranian authorities explained that their decision to block access to Google services, including Gmail, was due to an anti-Islam movie which caused protests throughout the globe.
Google-iran.jpg

The film in question, Innocence of Muslims, which appears to have been created to trigger riots in Arab countries, has finally put the search giant in a position where Iran wanted. The matter is that Iran had been looking for a reason to ban Google for a while, but couldn’t find a good one until YouTube refused to remove the anti-Islam movie. Now the local authorities can claim they are saving their citizens from the evil Google.

EU Watchdog against Google

It seems that European competition watchdog is planning to start formal proceedings against Google due to antitrust complaints.

Industry experts believed that there was hope Google might come to agreement with the EU Competition Commissioner before it got to court. However, recently he said that it hasn’t happened yet.

The problem is in the way the search engine promotes its services in its own search results. This issue is still not solved even as the parties prepare for a huge court case that might result in a fine equal to 10% of Google’s profits.

Microsoft Criticized Google for Breaching Privacy

Microsoft was noticed marketing its Bing search engine by claiming that Google breaches the privacy of its users.

Microsoft is reported to be sending out warnings to people who use Safari, urging the Internet users to use Bing since Google is careless about their privacy. Microsoft has launched a Bing landing webpage for Safari users. They have a reason to do so – recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had fined Google

Senior Vice President for the company, Vic Gundotra, confirmed on Google+ that the company had made the acquisition, but he didn’t provide any other financial details. Google Chrome Won’t Track Users Anymore

The company has finally given in to pressure from everyone else in the industry and is currently planning to introduce a “do-not-track” feature on its browser.

264google.jpg

The company is well-known for standing up for the rights of its advertisers to know what its users were doing. Nevertheless, it seems that Google finally changed its mind and is planning to support a “do-not-track” feature (DNT).

Google Interfered in Aussie Election

Google seems to have troubles for allegedly choosing which political parties deserved attention in an Aussie election. The local press confirms that the Australian Sex Party has filed a complaint against the search giant with both the American Department of Justice and the Australian competition watchdog.

264google.jpg

The complaint says that the company was corrupt and blames Google for illegally interfering with the conduct of the latest Victorian by-election. Google allegedly refused to run the party’s adverts in the lead-up to the July 12 election. And it wasn’t the first time that this has happened – the search giant also refused to run their advertisements during the last federal election.

Former German First Lady Suing Google

Bettina Wulff, the wife of former German president, is doing her best to suppress online rumors about her. As such, she is suing Google to prevent it from linking to speculations about her former movements in the red light district.

According to the German press, the 38-year-old wife of the former president had recently submitted an affidavit claiming that all rumors about her having worked as a prostitute in her younger years were all a lie. Over 30 bloggers and media outlets from all over the world had to sign declarations within the past several months pledging to cease and desist from citing such rumors.

Google Could Be Sued Over Search Parameters

The CEO of a British search engine company has warned Google that the company could be sued if it doesn’t change its search result tactics.

264google.jpg

According to Shivaun Raff, the co-founder and CEO of Foundem, Google faces “a tsunami of follow-on litigation” in case it fails to alter its search results in a negotiated settlement. Shivaun Raff told during the interview that the search engine’s need to avoid huge lawsuits from the entities affected by its previous dominance will mean that the case in question puts it in a strong position. So, everyone who thinks that the search giant will easily get away with superficial remedies is wrong.

Google Has Troubles in Germany

Do you know that Google has news section? This seems to cause it troubles because Chancellor Angela Merkel demands the search engine, as well as the others, to pay for every bit of reproduced material from news Internet portals.
google.jpg
Actually, Google News makes decent income out of hot reports from major news sites like the CNN, BBC, and New York Times. As such, Angela Merkel’s cabinet agreed a week ago on a draft that would force Google and other aggregators to pay a fee for every bit of content borrowed from other sources. If Merkel succeeds with her plan, the search engine may find itself in trouble in Germany.
